I tried the web interface. I even downloaded the history csv file they
make available. That didn't seem to help.
I can't think of anything short of loading the tape and attempting a
write.

Gentlemen gentleman that brute force stuff is so last year. :-)

Check out API QTARCTGI. This guy returns a handy dandy list of every
tape in the library and a long list of attributes. They include the
write protect status, if it's a cleaning tape, the LTO number, the slot
number and more.

If you are interested I can send you a CL program that you can compile
and run which will send the list and a bunch of the fields to your
joblog. Of course utilizing it in a program is more useful.

The program combines many of the new CL features including DOFOR, Based
variables, Defined variables and yes Pointers. Warning I'm a hardware
guy. :-)

Gentlebeings, gentlebeings--

APIs are so... so... geeky!

Use the DSPTAPCTG command to an outfile, and you can see lots of
interesting information, including write protect status.

And DSPTAPSTS can show a lot of nifty information about the library
and which drives it contains.

HA! Nice.

One thing I forgot to mention and this applies to both this solution and
my API option is that the IBM i Option Media and Storage Extensions is
licensed and keyed for this to work.
